Visit the beautiful city of Rome by choosing our special tours planned and prepared especially for ICA 2022 participants!

If the minimum number of participants of each tour is not met, the Organizing Secretariat will find an alternative tour or reimburse the ticket.

Conference Dinner

Casale Tor di Quinto, Via del Casale Di Tor Di Quinto, 1

Thursday 22nd September 2022, h 20-23 PM

The Conference Dinner will be organized in a typical Casale (a farmhouse), which preserves intact the structure of a roof of wooden boards with beams and the original trusses. The location has been transformed into a restaurant and divided into different, large halls and serves typical seasonal Italian food.

The dinner will take place outdoor, unless there’s bad weather.

Cultural Tours

At the origins of Medieval Rome

Sunday 18th September 2022, h 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Accompanied walk and guided visit through Rione Sant’Angelo between the Roman Empire and Late Antiquity. The itinerary includes a visit to the Tiber Island, the Theater of Marcellus, the Portico d’Ottavia, and a visit to the Balbi Crypt.

The Balbi Crypt, a unique and original history of a Roman city block. In this unique micro-environment, the intermingling of the subsoil and the fabric of the structures surrounding it have created an uninterrupted narrative of the history of a city block in the centre of Rome. The Crypta Balbi is one of a small number of museums in the world that can boast of its origins as a planned research activity involving all fields of knowledge.

Rome and the art of mosaic

Meeting point: entrance of Santa Maria Maggiore

Sunday 18th September 2022, h 2:30 – 5:30 PM

Accompanied walk and guided visit. The itinerary includes the visit of the mosaics of different churches.

You will visit the Papal major basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the largest Catholic Marian church in Rome. The mosaics found in Santa Maria Maggiore are one of the oldest representations of the Virgin Mary in Christian Late Antiquity (fifth century). Under the high altar of the basilica is the Crypt of the Nativity of ]esus Christ.

The walk will continue with the Santa Pudenziana Church, a basilica built in the 4th-century, that is dedicated to Saint Pudenziana, sister of Saint Praxedes and daughter of Saint Pudens. The church of Santa Pudenziana is recognized as the oldest place of Christian worship in Rome.

You will continue with the Basilica of Saint Praxedes and its famous Saint Zeno chapel.

Baroque Rome

Tuesday 20th September 2022, h 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Accompanied walk and guided visit.

The itinerary will take you to the State Archives of Rome that keep the documentation produced by the central magistracies (and by some of the Roman ambit) relating to the temporal government of the Papal State.

During the tour, participants will visit Navona Square, which displays the genius of Bernini and Borromini. The square is one of the finest Baroque masterpieces in papal Rome. The site for today’s square is built on the ancient Stadium of Domitian. The magnificent church of Sant’Agnese in Agone was designed by Francesco Borromini.

Another stop will be the Altemps Palace, originally built by a Roman noble family. the Palace is built around a delightful courtyard decorated by a monumental fountain standing in the middle. This magnificent palace hosts a remarkable collection of antiquities from the classical world as well as from Egypt.

Antique Rome

Meeting point: entrance of the Capitol Museum

Accompanied walk and guided visit. The itinerary includes a visit to the Capitol Museum and Tabularium, lunch in a typical restaurant. Colosseum, Palatinum and Forums.

The creation of the Capitol Museum has been traced back to 1471, when Pope Sixtus IV donated a group of bronze statues of great symbolic value to the People of Rome. The collections are closely linked to the city of Rome, and most of the exhibits come from the city itself. It is considered the most ancient collection in the world. In fact, the sculptural works kept here have an inestimable artistic value. The Capitoline Museums are divided into “Palazzo dei Conservatori” and “Palazzo Nuovo” both in Capitol Square.

In Roman times the Tabularium, an imposing Late Republican Age building that lie underneath the Palazzo Senatorio, was used as an archive for the conservation of the bronze tabulae containing the laws and the official deeds of the Roman State.

Naples and Historical Archives of the Banco of Naples

The Banco di Napoli Historical Archive represents the largest archival collection of banking documentation in the world. In about 330 rooms, bank documents ranging from the mid-1500s to today are collected and catalogued. It is located in the headquarters of the Banco di Napoli Foundation, in via dei Tribunali, in the sixteenth-century Palazzo Ricca and in the adjacent Palazzo Cuomo.

There is content and information relevant to the economic, social and artistic history of the southern regions and documents regarding the structure and evolution of the credit institutions operating in them, as well as commercial contracts with European nations.
